The Andela Kigali StackUp Program

The StackUp Program (SUP) is a 5-month remote program where aspiring technologists shall gain Entry level/Beginner technical and soft skills geared towards turning them into FullStack JavaScript Engineers. The candidates will get access to tools and workflows adopted by global engineering teams to make them ready for employment at Andela and or any other technology organization within the African ecosystem.

Software engineers who successfully complete the 5-month SUP will:

  • Gain the technical JavaScript skills you need to start your career as a FullStack Junior Developer

  • The fastest track to your employment as a software engineer in the African Tech Ecosystem and at Andela

Through intensive learning, you’ll master the professional and technical skills you need to succeed as a software developer with the world’s top engineering teams.

We’ll do this in partnership, you bring a relentless desire to learn and level up and we’ll provide access to online resources, mentorship, and a community of passionate software developers to support you at every step of your journey.

Stage 1: Online Application

Stage 2: Technical Assessment

Once you submit your application, you’ll be directed to go through the challenges of the first two certifications of the FreecodeCamp Curriculum and to attempt one project per certification.

This is required to complete a technical assessment that will evaluate your knowledge of the content you’ve learned.

Stage 3: Interview and English Assessment

Based on your application and technical assessment, you may be invited to a remote interview made up of staff members and developers at Andela.

Stage 4: Onboarding and Andela Developer Challenge (ADC)

At this stage you’ll be on-boarded on the different remote work tools you’ll be using for the rest of the program and the ADC. This period will last one week and will also include a team skills session and integrity session.

Stage 5: Roll up phase

Candidates will participate in a two-week, simulated development sprint led by senior Andela developers. The two weeks are fully remote comprised of self-learning and product development sessions. You’ll be expected to learn independently as well as with remote teams to deliver the final project. We’re looking for work ethic, passion, and teamwork.

Stage 6: Project Phase

Successful candidates at this stage will participate in the final 12-weeks of the program, the following technical skills will be covered;

  • PostgreSQL- An open-source SQL Database.
  • Express JS - A fast, unopinionated, minimalist web framework for Node JS.
  • Node JS - An open-source, cross-platform JavaScript run-time built on Chrome’s V8 JavaScript Engine.
  • Docker - An independent container platform that enables organizations to seamlessly build, run and share any application, anywhere.


  • React/Redux JS - An efficient, and flexible JavaScript library for building user interfaces.

Roll up Phase: March 9th - March 20th, 2020
